Circuit training every Wednesday (except when sports hall is used for other functions) , 16:45-17:45.   The training will cost £3 per person each session. Some sessions throughout the year will raise money for Changing Faces.    A PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) will need to be completed on your first session only. A copy can be downloaded in advance by clicking here. This is designed to identify those whom physical activity may not be suitable for without written permission from their GP. What is Circuit Training? Circuit Training is basically a series of exercises planned to work a variety of movement patterns sequenced together around the sports hall. The exercises can be varied to cater for different fitness levels, with a range of progressions for both new and experienced exercisers. Exercises will be performed for a set time period with rest intervals throughout. Circuit training allows you to exercise in the company of others, this aids motivation and commitment to a fitness regime.   Benefits from circuit training include weight loss/fat loss, improved aerobic and anaerobic fitness, increased athletic movement ability, raised metabolism and increased bone density, and elevated mood levels (positive ones!).   Sometimes you may work with a partner trying to push each other on, other times you may work on your own. Either way you get the chance to set your own pace, although you will have lots of motivation and encouragement to work harder! The Science of Circuit Training   A study by Braun et al (2005) compared excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC) response in women following circuit training and treadmill exercise. Both training methods were structured so the same level of oxygen consumption occured during the training session. EPOC was higher for the first 30 minutes following the circuit training.   A greater EPOC equals more calories burnt! The harder you work during circuit training, the greater amount of oxygen your body requires for metabolic processes (living) after the session. Although EPOC wont produce a huge calorie deficit, the accumulation of this in conjunction with the increased calories burnt through exercise, dietary changes, and other forms of exercise all fight the war against fat!       References:    Braun W.A et al; (2005) "Acute EPOC response in women to circuit training and treadmill exercise of matched oxygen consumption", Eur J Appl Physiol.
