I few years back I came across an awesome motivational video showing a
guy completing a triathlon with his son; together they are Team Hoyt. Im not
suggesting you go out and enter an ironman triathlon straight after watching
this clip, but if your currently following a sedentary lifestyle this may
motivate you to get off the sofa and increase your activity levels!
Now there are people who are overweight and are doing something about
it....well done, absolute respect from me, you are motivated and clearly
choosing a life which many other overweight people only talk about or
dream about. You are taking positive steps towards a long and prosperous
life, you are exercising, eating well and living that dream. You may be a long
way off but you will get there one step at a time. You "CAN" do it!
There are also people who are overweight, moaning about it, but not taking
any positive steps to change. They may even be talking about wanting to
lose weight, researching "diets", but not interested in exercise. They may
even be saying "new year will be the year they change". Theres a new year
every year, whats so different about this one from the last, you probably put
another 2 stone on, thats whats different! Get motivated!
Exercising, whilst following professional advice is good for you, it reduces the
burden on the NHS and stops you getting so fat you can not get out of bed!
In the media a couple of years ago there was a report about a 70 stone guy
who needed a special ambulance! 70 stone! When he was 50 stone he had
to go to hospital, having had a window removed from his house to get him
there, and a fork lift truck to lift him up! At what point on the way to 70
stone did this guy think... “hmmm I am a little overweight perhaps i better
seek medical advice”. Did he not even think when he could not wipe his own
ass at 50 stone that he was a little on the portly side!
I love food, i just know when I have had enough and I know what foods to
eat less often! I also know that I will put weight on if I eat more calories then
im expending. If I put weight on it is my fault! In the last 2 weeks I have put
1.5kg on, I have ate lots! Also I have had a complete break from strength
training choosing to go out mountain biking and do a few circuits at home.
The weight gain is my fault, therefore it is up to me to sort it out...quite a
simple concept really.
Now if this video from youtube does not inspire you to at least do some
exercise then I am lost as to what will. This video embodies everything that
fitness brings to ones life - happiness.
A Son asked his father, “Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?” The
father who, despite having a heart condition, says “Yes”. They went on to
complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join other
marathons. The father always saying “Yes” to his son’s request of going
through the race together. One day, the son asked his father, “Dad, let’s join
the Ironman together.”
To which, his father said “Yes”.
For those who don’t know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race
encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer) ocean
swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride and ending with a
26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of the Big Island.
Father and son went on to complete the race together!
